Granite, Marble, and Stone Countertops
Stone is one of several materials that you can use for your >, Florida area kitchen and bathroom countertops. And when you speak of stone, granite is among the hottest choices you have. It gives your home a fresh, modern look and is the ideal choice if you have a large budget. To give you a rough idea of how much it costs - 90 square feet of the material will cost you around a thousand dollars. Granite tiles will cost you less than granite slabs, but is much more difficult to keep clean and take car of.
If you’re not operating on a shoestring budget and you want a countertop that looks elegant and will last for ages, marble is the ideal choice for you. However marble requires that you care for it properly in order for it to look its best. Marble is not affected by heat, but is susceptible to stains and is porous. It needs to be treated with a special stone sealer that will reduce its porosity, and this will prevent water from penetrating the surface. You must make it a point to wipe up wine, fruit juice and other acidic food spills to prevent staining.
Soapstone is non porous which means that leaks and spills on your countertops will remain on the surface and not penetrate deep down onto the material. For best results, apply a coating of mineral oil to soapstone to help protect it further from acid and stain attacks.
